100 Years After the Assassination of Pancho Villa
Villa, A Map in Fragments brings together five Mexican writers, five texts, and five locations across El Paso del Norte to explore the contradictory historical figure of Pancho Villa.
From the same border territory that helped shape his legend, the film approaches Villa through literature, voice, and landscape. Rather than constructing a single portrait, it traces a fragmented map in which different perspectives, memories, and places coexist, revealing the ways a historical figure continues to be rewritten from the present.
A Map Made of Fragments
The film is structured around a simple gesture: each writer reads a text from a different location connected to Villa and the border region. The act of reading becomes a way of inhabiting the landscape, allowing contemporary spaces to enter into dialogue with history.
The map suggested by the title is therefore deliberately incomplete—assembled through voices, texts, places, and contradictions rather than through a definitive historical account.
